Olivia Hoffman

4th Grade WATER Lead Teacher

Raised in Oakland, Olivia brings a wealth of experience and passion to her new role. She has five years of experience working with children, and has spent the last two years completing her residency at Head Royce School in Oakland.  Olivia received her BFA in Creative Writing at University of British Columbia. She recently received her Masters in elementary school teaching through the BAT-TI program, in addition to her teaching credential.

In her residency at Head Royce, Olivia piloted the Fundations program in her third-grade classroom, and is well versed in the science of reading. During her graduate studies, she conducted an action research project examining the effectiveness of phonics programs. Her deep understanding of the science of reading has equipped her with the skills to foster literacy and a love for reading among her students. Beyond her expertise in reading instruction, Olivia is passionate about integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into the curriculum. She developed a student-led positive affirmation practice, which she successfully implemented in her third-grade classroom, promoting a supportive and empowering learning environment and teaching her students to strengthen their growth mindset.

Olivia is eager to bring her innovative teaching strategies and heartfelt commitment to student growth to Berkwood Hedge, where she looks forward to contributing to a nurturing and inspiring educational community.
