Description
Berkwood Hedge School is seeking excellent candidates for a part-time After School Program Teacher with the possibility of subbing during the day for the current school year.

Berkwood Hedge School’s curriculum is based on the understanding that children construct their knowledge of the world through hands-on, integrated, and active child-centered learning experiences. The strength of the Berkwood Hedge School constructivist and developmental approach is that it allows children to be creative participants in their own learning. Our teachers support their growth and development across the cognitive, physical, social and moral domains.

Under the direction and support of the Head of School, the After School Program Teacher will ensure the quality of the content of the After School Program. The ASP Teacher will plan, implement and manage the daily program during the school year (September through June).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise ASP staff, including leading weekly staff meetings, provide staff support and evaluation

  • Oversee program planning, submit a quarterly plan

  • Plan and run After School events

  • Communicate with parents as their primary contact about their children’s experience in After School

  • Plan the menu and supervise daily snack, weekly menu by Friday of the previous week

  • Purchase and monitor food and supplies

  • Monitor first aid supplies, emergency forms binder

  • Purchase and track use of art supplies and other materials, inventory twice a year: June and January

  • Lead and provide staffing for conference and holiday care days

 

Required Qualifications

  • Five years of experience working with children

  • Understanding of and appreciation for progressive education

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Strong communication skills with both children and adults

  • Experience planning and implementing group activities

  • Ability to develop and align a dynamic program

Attendance at school events and activities, such as plays, concerts, festivals, and fairs, staff meetings, and open houses is required.
