Physical Education
The physical education program fosters a love of activity and focuses on skill-building, teamwork, fair play, and health habits. Students build confidence and nurture their mind body connection regularly.
All students participate in physical education several times a week. Physical education activities are designed to be developmentally appropriate in order to maximize physical, intellectual, and social-emotional development. A wide variety of activities are integrated into the physical education curriculum to keep students engaged and to give them the opportunity to work on and to develop skills in a number of different disciplines. Students are exposed to classic activities such as tag games, relay races, and ball games, as well as to novel games created by the Berkwood Hedge PE instructor. Many of the activities are teamwork-oriented in order to help students develop collaborative, cognitive, and physical skills.
Optional team sports, such as basketball, soccer, hockey and kickball, are also offered during lunchtime throughout the school year in order to give students the opportunity to practice the skills they learn in PE and to increase their enthusiasm for sport and physical activity. Physical education is fun and inclusive for all students, and we take pride in the much-loved program we offer.
Our Athletics Program is open to students in sixth through eighth grade. Learn more about Athletics at Berkwood Hedge School.
