We are an independent K-8 school unlike any other. The three enduring tenets of a Berkwood Hedge School education are a dynamic academic and specialist program, a welcoming community that fosters a sense of belonging, and close ties between families and school to support students and enrich family life.

We are well-known for our project-based, hands-on curriculum that promotes deep learning and engagement, and have long been a leader in progressive education, as well as social and environmental justice. Our teachers and staff cultivate students' natural creativity and intellectual curiosity through compassionate guidance and expertise, within environments that are just right for their age, emotions, and needs on our two Berkeley campuses. When we help students grow into their authentic selves without growing up too quickly, they develop clarity, courage and conviction for the future, all while enjoying a rich childhood experience today.
