Green Team

As the first school in Alameda County to earn certification as a Green Business (Berkeley Press Release), Berkwood Hedge is committed to providing a healthy environment for our students and staff and to setting an example for sustainability and environmental awareness through our curriculum, recycling programs and purchasing decisions.

Our Green School Program supports environmental awareness by:

• conserving resources by using reusable or compostable plates, cups, silverware and napkins at all school events;

• encouraging healthy no-waste lunches and providing healthy snacks at school, and supporting a partnership with Full Belly Farm, an organic farm located in the Capay Valley;

• composting snack and lunchtime scraps and feeding our composting worms;

• eliminating the use of pesticides and harmful chemical cleaners at school;

• eliminating the use of art and other materials that may contain harmful chemicals;

• developing our environmental science program to emphasize ecological sustainability and environmental awareness;

• increasing our campus recycling efforts on an on-going basis;

• continuing to inform and educate our community about the environment through Tuesday Notes, parent education events, and other forums.

We are proud of our efforts to support a healthy, nurturing and sustainable future for our students and their families.
